The BNP has previously called for the banning of the wearing of the burka in public – something that, quite apart from being a cultural issue, is a matter of commonsense from the security angle. What is the point, we ask, of installing countless numbers of CCTVs in public places, if people are allowed to walk around effectively disguised in a burka?
Two recent robberies in the West Midlands, involving “blaggers in burkas”, reinforce this argument. Robbery, of course, is bad enough - but what, we ask, if these criminals had something else on their minds other than robbery – such as acts of terrorism? What mode of dress could be better suited than a burka for both concealing a terrorist and a bomb belt?
