| Labels
Something that is inescapable when analyzing the views and opinions of others posting on this forum, is the unhealthy imbalance of the use of derogatory terminology to label certain individuals for their political beliefs.
With scant regard for what the individual may or may not bring to the debate, their views are quickly dismissed because of a inherent dislike of either their self appointed faith in a particular ideology or their support and affiliation to a political party. I admit that I myself am guilty of this on various occasions and its only to be expected, when say contentious issues are up for debate, but seeing that there is at least an agreement that no political ideology, has or ever will benefit the whole of society, surely we should encourage, free debate without the need to label people, with terms such as 'commie' or 'fascist.' springing to mind.
Is it anymore desirable or acceptable for a socialist to be labeled a 'communist' than it is for say a 'nationalist' to be referred to as a 'fascist'?
I think I know what both sides of the political spectrum will answer to that question: each believing that they are neither 'communist' or 'fascist' respectively, while quick to assert the other as previously labeled, while taking great offense that they have been mislabeled themselves.. Is this not a great hypocrisy!?
Lets be clear with facts here, socialism is not communism. It is neither acceptable or correct to assume otherwise. The same can be said of the relationship between nationalism and fascism.
Recent debates have escalated into free for all slanging matches whereby it seems acceptable to claim 'the commies in charge' or 'thats a communist trait' or 'left leaning drivel' these are all just examples and have no bearing on actual comments in the threads, although I think we all know these types of comment have been made, if you feel I am making accusations towards you, or aiming this towards anybody in particular.. this would indicate an element of guilt.
I think we all need to be a little more responsible with the labels we throw around, whether that be 'communist,' 'fascist,' 'racist' or otherwise. All are offensive and easy to manipulation and misrepresentation. Discussing the beliefs and ideas of member is of much greater value than prematurely labeling someone, with something you possibly don't even understand!!
