By changing our laws are we not just giving in to terrorists and alienating British Muslims even more?

Your first point is the stronger giving up our freedoms plays in to the hands of the terrorists. Of course those freedoms need defending but the governments arguments seem all over the place . First they wanted 90 days this was the magic number that would keep us safe now it is 42 , experts on both sides are divided on this issue and it has become further complicated as a test of Gordon Browns authority.
So many concessions have been given to secure the vote makes me think this is about party politics , beating the opposition making them look soft on terrorism and of course the PM must not lose.

As for alienating British Muslims i think they do a pretty good job of that themselves they need to do a lot more in showing where their loyalty really lies.

And so it has passed by all of nine, count them nine votes! Already rumours of Mr Brown courrupting this vote through even such things as offering knight hoods to one man are sweeping the media.

As a tory though, i am glad this was passed. One step closer to ridding the country of those damned terrorists!

Brown will portray this as a victory but in truth he is weaker as he has given concessions to anyone willing to be bought off . Labour backbenchers now know they can extort what they want for their support new lists are probably being drawn up as we speak ready for the next crisis .

I will believe the need for 42/90/Guantanamo, when I can find ANY case where a Terrorist action has been prevented, OR a terror cell has been broken up BECAUSE they have used the time they have NOW!!!

The extra time is Incapability Brown trying to show he is tough. NOTHING else.

The Unionists should hang their heads in shame - they sold their votes to the government, and we will ultimately pay the price.

Some political commentators are saying that the final agreement was for Brown to pay the unionists a lot more money to subsidise their taxes, as well as have their leader as chairman on an important committee. Both parties denied this, however the evidence speaks for itself.

So the unionists have their 30 pieces of silver, Brown has our freedom on a plate and we......we have a fearful future before us. God help us all.

Most of the public don't realise that this law won't keep them any safer than the 28 days ruling did; but worse, it means this can now be used on us too.

No? Well, the current anti terrorist laws are being used by county councils to spy on us so that they can ensure that: your bin is shut properly and has the 'right' rubbish in it; that you're recycling properly; that you are in the correct catchment area for the school you wish your child/ren to attend and last, but by no means least, to see that you pick up your dog's mess.

What next? What's to stop the government deciding that fuel protesters are a 'threat to the general public' by threatening supplies of petrol/diesel, and using the 42 day rule to ensure the arrested protesters 'confess' their 'crime' and give the names of their fellow activists? We have taken a step onto a slippery slope today, I'm not sure we can keep our balance...

As for the Unionists who sold us out? I hope that this decision comes back to bite them first.
