We have MASSES of REALLY heavy scented roses on our balcony, and around the terrace. We have three Lime trees in FULL flower in the garden, along with two horse chestnut and a couple of cherry trees.

We have had 30°c regularly for three weeks now. The smell of the trees and flowers is like being stoned.

BUT we have not seen ONE bee or wasp!!!

I have not seen 'owt in the press regarding this, EXCEPT for the "failing to return to nest" problem. (But that was LAST year)

So IS there a general European lack of bees/wasps this year, or are we in Berlin imagining it?

I admit to being concerned.

The lack of Bees would be a worry but wasps ? ..... good riddance i say.

There appear to be plenty of Bees in blighty no sign of the Wasps as yet , will update you when i can find one :D

I've seen about 4 bees and two wasps (the latter of which, I swatted).

I love bees, its the one insect that doesn't terrify me, probably because my Irish grandma used to keep hives so I suppose I'm used to them.

Wasps I can't see the point of; they're permanently angry, always trying to sting you and refuse to go away (bit like our current PM then! ;))

Mind you I haven't seen any bumbles at all this year; which is a shame as they're my favourite bee. :(

There has been a phenomenon reported over recent years of Bees in the USA dying out at an alarming rate, starting in the south and moving slowly northward,at an increasing rate, bees in the wild and those raised for honey have both been affected by this creeping death.I havnt heard any reports of any scientific reasons for this nor have i heard of any urgency to research the phenomenon!Worrying though, very worrying!
