Center for Houston’s Future (CHF) was founded in 1992 as a non-profit organization of the Great Houston Partnership (GHP). The organization was dedicated in service towards the development of the business community of the region. The organization plans and develops strategies that can help Houston move ahead in the business arena.
In the year 2000, it was declared an independent affiliate of the GHP, under the leadership of Eugene H. Vaughan, Founding Chairman.
The center’s aim is to develop scenarios for the future of the Houston region. The workshop’s primary finding was to expand the scope and expectations of the Center to address not only business-civic leadership development but long-range strategic planning for the region as well. It was the Chairman Vaughan and James D. Calaway who took the lead in taking the ideas of the workshop and molding it into strategic plan. The three objectives are to deepen the bench and widen the circle of Business-Civic leadership; to become a premier strategic planning group for the region; and to inform and engage citizens in the creation of Houston's future.James D. Calaway became the Founding CEO of the Center in November 2001. He executed the plan to develop the organization and also provided the center with executive leadership through to May 2005.
The Center for Houston is committed in its effort to develop the business community of the Houston region. It receives charitable donations, funds from corporations, individuals and the board of Directors, which is utilized for the strategic planning and future of the business in Houston. Some of its sponsors are Amegy Bank of Texas
