All Property is Theft?

If we are all born equal, and we are all citizens of the Earth, what gives one person the 'right' to own property (to own part of the Earth). John Locke famously talked of labour mixing and many other philosophers have grappled with this problem. What I think is, that today, the 'right' to own property is seen as given and we have stopped thinking about where this right comes from. I hope to start a debate and get people to think about why we have a concept of ownership at all. Why not, instead, a concept of stewardship? Is the earth really ours to own? We are part of a complex ecosystem and yet are the only animals that seem to consider themselves the owners of land rather than its guardians.

Any thoughts
