| An illegal migrant from China who was captured after five years on the run is free again after immigration officials told him to make his own way to their offices. Chinese Dun Lun Hu, 36, was seized last Friday and held in police custody over the weekend after he was caught selling pirated DVDs. He then appeared before York magistrates but UK Border Agency officials did not bother to turn up to the hearing. Instead they sent a letter asking him to travel to their offices in Sheffield, 70 miles away. But he has not been seen since. After being smuggled into Britain, Hu trawled pubs and clubs selling pirate DVDs of box-office smash films and pornography. But he was captured during a police sting on a pub in Selby, North Yorks. In court on Monday he was given a conditional discharge for his offences. But that gave magistrates no power to detain him and because immigration officials did not attend the hearing, he had to be set free. Prosecutor Steven Ovenden even warned the court that Hu was likely to disappear again. He said: “For five years or so he has been off the radar. I am frankly unsure that he will attend the immigration offices.” Hu was arrested in The Elizabethan pub, where he was found to be carrying a bag containing 229 illegal DVDs which he was selling for £2 each. They included counterfeit copies of blockbuster films Sex And The City and the new Indiana Jones movie plus pornographic titles. He admitted six charges of selling pirate DVDs and was given a three-month conditional discharge. Source “…because immigration officials did not attend the hearing, he had to be set free”. Do I see a possible reason for immigration officials not attending. Is it because of affirmative action/positive discrimination recruitment in the Immigration Service? Maybe all the immigration officers are Chinese and the court hearing notification wasn’t in Chinese. Far fetched? Really? Anything is possible in this diversity welcoming toilet of a country. |
