Views on the Private sector in Education?

Basically, the point of this thread is to investigate who's up for it, who's against it etc.

I'll start:

The private sector should be eliminated in terms of education (and personally I believe on all fronts) as the object of a company is to make profit, not deliver a good job necessarily. I do not believe that men who are out to make as much cash as possible and be trusted with education and the handling of it. This belief is supported by the American firm ETS's recent failure in marking the SATs results on time, and I'm glad to say, the contract has been dropped by the QCA...although we're only having £24.1m returned out of the contract which was worth £39.6m

BBC NEWS | Education | Sats marking contract is scrapped

So, what are everyone else's opinions? Should the private sector have a role in education? Should private schools be allowed?
