check out http://civilitas.blogspot.com for Pinoy middle class views of major Philippine/World issues that are not usually given enough space in the Philippine traditional media.
The Philippines is not what it is portrayed by ABS-CBN (The Filipino Channel) and the tight camera shots by CNN, BBC and international media. There are more sober nonsensationalist Filipino majority out there.

solon bares raid on Laguna home
An opposition congressman who recently defected from the administration alleged Tuesday that armed men barged into his home in Santa Cruz, Laguna and abducted one of his supporters.
"Parang hinahanap ako (They were looking for me)," Laguna Rep. Benjamin Agarao told an ANC interview on the sidelines of the House Committee on Justice hearing on the impeachment complaint against President Arroyo.
Agarao said six men armed with M-16 rifles entered his home at 3 a.m. Tuesday and took Ramon Mangaya Jr.
He said the men poked their guns at Mangaya and forced him out of the house where a jeep and a pick-up truck were waiting. The caretaker was returned to the Agarao home an hour later.
The congressman said the assailants interrogated Mangaya about his routine. "[Tanong nila] kung saan nakapwesto ang kwarto naming mag-asawa, kung ilan ang baril sa bahay, kung ano'ng araw ako dumarating (They asked Mangaya where our room was located, the number of guns in the house and the days of my arrival)."
Sen. Franklin Drilon, meanwhile, condemned the raid at Agarao's home.
"I condemn in the strongest possible terms this apparent political harassment on Congressman Agarao, the latest recruit of the Liberal Party who took oath as a party member last July 26," Drilon said. Drilon is LP president.

Hi yamanitoshi,
Have you heard about ZTE-National Broadband Network deal between People's Republic of China and the ruling Kampi Party of Pres. Gloria Arroyo? According to experts at University of the Philippines it will cost only about forty five (45M) million peso at the the exchange rate of $1 to Php45 but was overpriced by the Arroyo regime to hundreds of billion pesos or $329 million.
May I know what are you trying to convey in your post.

Is hundreds of billion peso unnecessary loan not outrageous enough to be sensational?

I think the majority of the Filipinos will back the Barack Obama presidential bid against Hillary Clinton. The reason? The political relation between former US Pres. Bill Clinton and Mrs. Gloria Arroyo, the most hated Philippine president. Filipinos do not want another political catastrophy of a Mrs. Arroyo like woman president to rule USA.

Mrs. Gloria Arroyo, a US government political ally and daughter of Phil. ex-president Diosdado Macapagal is truly selling the country down the river for the love of greed and money.
The opportunity presented by the opposition lawmakers for the country to strengthen its claim on the disputed Kalayaan Islands, better known as the Spratlys, along with the Scarborough Shoal, through the passage of the archipelagic baseline law, and yet Mrs. Gloria Arroyo is throwing this chance away as she again bows to the pressure of People's Republic of China (PROC), a communist country, discarding national interest for China’s, her personal and family interest, even when this was clearly detrimental to Philippine interests, was evident in her move to have the House pull out that bill which includes the Spratlys as part of our territory.
The country already has, for all intents and purposes, lost Sabah to Malaysia, courtesy of then President Fidel Ramos, also a US political ally, who virtually handed Sabah to then Prime Minister Mahatir Mohammed, an anti-US Asian leader.
Is this what US-Philippine friendship all about? Only for the interest of greed and money and to hell with the country and its people?
