Isn't this something to do with the website pirate-bay.org? A party which supports music and video piracy?

It's a political party.
Not a call to piracy.
Just read!!!
You will understand what it is...

It's a way to fight abusive and restrictive laws.

Do you get a free eye patch and a bottle of rum if you join?:D and does the party leader have a peg leg?

...and you have to get an ear ring to join.
You can also build ships (they are organisational units in pirate parties around the world)
I'm sailing on "Jean Bart", the french pirate party's first ship. There are 6 ships in french PP...

Seriously though how many members do you have worldwide?

French PP has around 2100 members.
FPP is 15 days old.
Sweden PP (the biggest) has around 225 000 members, but is older. It has a real influence in politics there. Left ang green parties in sweden changed their political programs on internet related questions.
In France, a bad law (named "DADVSI") is on the way.
Apple, vivendi, and other lobbies, are fighting against free software, eucd.info, now french PP, and others on this point.
This DADVSI, cuts in internet users rights and gives too much power to big societies.

whats your policy on p2p networks like bittorrent and limewire? Do you believe file sharing is illegal?

1 - > Total and unlimited liberty of speech
2 - > The end of the author rights as they exist in 2006 (DADVSI)
3 - > The right to browse anonimously on Internet
4 - > The legalization of P2P Networks when used in a non-lucrative purpose
5 - > The suppression of all taxes on empty hardware
6 - > Free Internet access to all

5 first are serious.
sixth... utopic, but can be really beneficial.

I think p2p is just a technology, as mail or ftp.
You can share file with mail, ftp, or newsgroups. Are theses technologies illegal? is mail illegal?
