Tomorrow's potential troublemakers can be identified even before they are born, Tony Blair has suggested.
Mr Blair said it was possible to spot the families whose circumstances made it likely their children would grow up to be a "menace to society".

He said teenage mums and problem families could be forced to take help to head off difficulties.

He said the government had to intervene much earlier to prevent problems developing when children were older.

There could be sanctions for parents who refused to take advice, he said.

"There is definitely a difference in the way that every culture is raised. I do think there is more of a lack of respect in so-called white culture than there is in the Asian or black culture.
"And maybe there's a little bit more respect in the Asian culture than in the Caribbean culture."

I am supportive of much tougher punishments for youth crime rather than this approach of identifying potenetial trouble makers even before they are born. We should at least give people a chance (even if like Blair says, it is possible to identify likely trouble makers).

I am fed up of hearing stories of children being charged 50+ times. would consider 6 charges as sufficient to warrant a long term (12 months +) period in a detention centre / disciplinary camp.

Blair should have known better than to comment on cultural differences in respect from children.
