Drivers of average-sized family cars will suffer huge tax rises under Liberal Democrat plans to hit polluters, it emerged yesterday.
Buyers of many Ford Mondeos – the voter group credited with helping to bring new Labour to power in 1997 – would see their car tax rise from £150 to £850.
