Last stand for Zimbabwe's white farmers

A tiny court in a shabby farming town in Zimbabwe was the setting yesterday for a last despairing attempt to stop President Robert Mugabe from evicting the country's few surviving white landowners.

A new law about to pass parliament will, in effect, give the regime power in the next 90 days to dispossess the last few hundred white farmers who still cling to their land.

Two white farming families who have already received eviction letters appealed to the magistrates' court in Karoi to halt the orders.

If the Nel and Terblanche families lose the test case, there will be nothing in law to stop Mr Mugabe from eliminating the surviving white landowners.

Didymus Mutasa, the lands and security minister, is leading the final offensive. David Drury, the lawyer representing the two families, told the court that Mr Mutasa "has dragged my clients to court... in a futile bid to evict them".

He said the regime's application for the eviction of the Nel and Terblanche families was "incompetent, illegal and an abuse of all sorts of rules and all sorts of laws".

After the hearing, Daniel Nel, 44, who was a government-approved South African investor, asked: "I am a white African, so why must I go?" He said: "We are operating on about 20 per cent of the land we used to have, but we still produce many thousands of tonnes of crops, and do so with government loans. So why do they want us to go?"

Its very simple : The ruling Zanu pf party of Robert Mugabe does not consider whites to be african.

Zimbabwe's economy has contracted by more than 40 per cent since 2000 and about one third of the population now depends on food aid.
They just don't get it do they?

Did they think food grew by some form of "white man magic"?

Places like this that have caused their own ruin should not recieve one single penny in aid.

It is their own damn fault.

Mugabe has systematically ethnic cleansed the country of basically all of its white citizens and blamed them for there economic and social woes. Bearing in mind whites in Zimbabwe only account for less than 0.1% of the population its bloody scandalous. If people of British descent were being persecuted while there was a source of oil nearby we would be there overnight. Mugabe has plunged his country into starvation by replacing productive farms with small subsistence farming by his Shona tribal brothers. The other tribe in Zimbabwe , the matebele , are massacred en masse by his Shona bretheren ehich is nothing less than genocide. Mugabe is a criminal and should be tried by his own people.

They are crying out for european rule again. When Smith was head of Zimbabwe it was described as ' the breadbasket of africa' . Handing power to African dictators can only end in ruin and disaster.

As an ex-American farmer I have met several white farmers ethnicly cleansed from their nation. As with my own heritage scottlands loss was America's gain. These people are hard working, honest, and looking for a home. Good farmers are people we can use here in the USA. The people of Zimbabwae suffer because of Mugumbee's thirst for power. The white farmers suffering was overlooked or glossed over by the media. I doubt the millions starving will be ovewrlooked by western media. Small solice to those who lost everything through populuism african style.
