Police to open election boxes in fraud probe

DETECTIVES investigating allegations of fraud in May's Coventry City Council elections are to examine ballot papers.

West Midlands Police has won the right to open up some of the sealed ballot boxes so they can hunt for evidence of wrongdoing.

It is likely the ballot papers will be fingerprinted to find out who cast the votes.

Judge Oliver Jones, sitting at Coventry's County Court, has granted the police permission to look at some of the boxes in Foleshill ward.

Tory Cllr Altaf Adalat won the key seat by just six votes, beating sitting Labour councillor Malkiat Singh Auluck in May's elections.
