where do our morals come from?

It is a common belief that we get our morals from religon I dont think this is the case. If we were to take our morals from the bible then we would not accept homosexuality or women as equals. The god in the old testament (which is the basis for Islam, jewdaism and christianity) is a very evil being, he orders acts of genoicide and seems to condone the gang raping of women. When he was about to destroy the city of Sodom he sent angels to the only good man in the citys home (i forget his name), and all the people of Sodom gathered outside his home and asked to "get to know" them. So the man offered the mob his duaghter to do onto as they wish.

After moses' army had destroyed the Midianites they returned with the women and children. Moses was outraged and ordered them to kill all male children and only spare the women who didnt know a mans touch for breeding.

When moses got to the promised lands the were told to kill all its inhabitants, kill all the animals and destroy all their property only keeping gold, silver, bronze and iron vassels, which were to be keep for the lord.

If we did take our morals from religion then where did equality for women and tolerance of homosexuals come from? certainly not the bible
