THE Red Arrows have been banned from performing at the 2012 London Olympics as they are too BRITISH.
Barmy organisers claim the popular RAF display team’s military background “might offend other nations”.
The decision has left pilots, who were set to perform their best-ever display at the opening ceremony, in a state of outrage...........

I don't consider a tabloid to be a reputable source.
Also:
A spokesman said: “No decision has yet been made.
“We haven’t made any final arrangements for the opening ceremony yet.”
So if no final decision has been made, how do they know they won't perform?

I have to agree with MACHMER. Nobody can take anything written in any of our 'News' papers as truthful or factual, especially the tabloids. Their fact content can only match that of the Beano.
Their written words are based. loosely, on actual happenings or hearsay, so it is very unlikely that anyone has actually said 'The Red Arrows won't be flying because they're too British'. More likely that somebody overheard somebody else who had heard that some PC cretin was concerned about foreigners being threatened by the sight of the RAFs, and the worlds, premier aerobatic display team.
Now, if we were to have a squadron of helicopter gunships dropping SAS and Marines into the visiting teams training areas with smoke bombs and Wagner playing at full blast, I could understand the concern. ( maybe not such a bad idea actually, might give our teams the edge ?)
However 9, 30 year old jets that went out of commission in the early eighties, and that are painted bright red couldn't really be deemed to be at all scary or offensive.
Tell me if I'm wrong and I'll chop a leg off, daub myself with black paint, wear a pink leotard, shout 'chase me chase me' and vote for the green party......................

I think the gunships would escort transports such as black hawks, and it might be inadvisable mixing SAS and Marines in case that start a shin kicking contest, but the rest of your post appears to be faultless :D

Correct, Markmuses. Well spotted. Not going to get too many parachutists in a gunship. Perhaps chinooks would be a better option.
And yes I wouldn't want to referee the squabbles between to the two regiments.
Cooeee !

Though i would have to agree a newspaper may not be the best source of factual information but in todays Britain, which is ruled by Political correctness , its hard not to see this kind of thing happening.
