| VICTORY for brave british worker A pizza shop supervisor who was sacked and replaced by cheap Polish immigrants has scored a victory for British-born workers. Kevin Lewis, 26, won a claim for unfair dismissal after his job at Dominos Pizza take-away was handed to foreign staff who were paid less than him. An employment tribunal in Liverpool heard that three Poles and one Iranian were hired to work at the shop in the city, in September 2006 and paid £5.35 an hour. Mr Lewis, who was paid £6 an hour was offered a transfer to another branch that he could not accept because of impossible travel arrangements. The tribunal had earlier heard how Mr Lewis, now a youth worker, nailed his employer with the recording made on a mobile phone. In the recording Mr Lewis said: "For me to get the other store is a 45 minute train journey and if I'm on lates I won't be able to get home. "I do not drive and there is no public transport at that time. Why is it me that has to move when there new staff being brought in?" Can you tell me why when I called this morning I was told my name had been taken off the rota all week?" Mr Kadhimi answered: "You are not on the rota because you are going to Chester." Lewis asked if this was his ultimatum to which Mr Kadhimi said: "Yes, I think you should go to Chester. After the hearing a delighted Mr Lewis said it was a national scandal that employers are replacing British-born staff with cheaper immigrant workers Mr Lewis, of Tranmere, Wirral, said: "Gordon Brown tries to say that he wants to keep British jobs for British workers but that is just a lie. "They are not doing anything to protect British workers and it's storing-up trouble. "What is happening is that thousands of people have come in from Poland and Eastern Europe and they are taking jobs because they work for less money. "When I started work at Dominos everyone working there was a local. But within eighteen months I was the last British worker. We had all been replaced by immigrants and I was expected to train them up. "I was sacked and replaced with a Pole and I had been expecting it so that is why I made the recording. "I decided to take a stand for British workers and I am glad the tribunal has ruled that it what they did to me was illegal. The tribunal upheld four claims from Mr Lewis for unfair dismissal, breach of contract, failure to provide a written contract and failure to provide written notice of dismissal. A hearing has been scheduled for 6th December to award a payment for compensation and loss of earnings. Pizza worker sacked 'because Poles are cheaper' wins unfair dismissal claim | the Daily Mail I'd like to think that some of the recent fireworks were for Mr Lewis, a brave soldier in the fight for british freedom. If you're still planning a to light a few, light one in the name of Mr Kevin Lewis. |
