Exclamation Muslims are urging greater integration

Muslim leaders in Bradford have warned of the need for more "real integration" following criticism levelled at the Government for fuelling tensions in Asian communities.

Muhammad Abdul Bari, the head of the Muslim Council of Britain, said during an interview with a national newspaper that there was a disproportionate amount of discussion' surrounding Muslims in the UK leading to suspicion and unease.

Today a seminar on Radicalisation and Multiculturalism was due to be held at Bradford University with Dr Yunas Samad, a lecturer at the university, and Yahya Birt, of the City Circle, as guest speakers.

Atif Imtiaz, an organiser of the event, agreed with the feeling that the Muslim community was under relentless pressure'.

He said: "Every week there is a different story saying one thing or another and I think that pressure is intense.

"What is interesting about this talk is that it allows members of the community a chance to hear well beyond the immediacy of the stories.

"I am not in denial that there are young men around who have bad intentions and inclinations towards extremism. But there is not one explanation and it is good for us to have a handle on these issues so it doesn't get worse."

The open discussion on radicalisation and multiculturalism was due to be held between 4.30pm and 7pm in the John Stanley Bell Lecture Theatre in the Richmond Building.

Dr Yunas Samad, social sciences lecturer at the university and director of its ethnicity and social policy research centre, will host the event.

He said: "We will be asking some fundamental questions about why some young Muslim men are being radicalised."

The event was also to see the launch of a new book, Islam in the European Union: Transnationalism, youth and the war on terror', co-edited by Dr Samad.

Bary Malik, chairman of Ahmadiya Muslim Association, said the most important way to tackle extremism was for integration to occur, He said: "I agree with some of the things Mr Bari has said, but I also think American and British foreign policy has gone completely wrong and had a detrimental effect on relations.

"We cannot impose things on people. We are able to educate people though.

"Integration is definitely a two-way street, but I think the immigrant community has to do a bit more.

"Unfortunately my view is that this is not happening as much as I would like.

"I think we have to do much more, authorities have to do more and communities have to do more if we are to create a real integration and not an artificial integration."

I don't know how they dare say we are not letting them integrate, i think they need to have a close look at the British culture and how we like to live and then critise us.

The Muslims are the ones that need to put more will into integration, they firstly need to remove their full veils and allow other to critise their religion and not murder those who do.

They need to learn to let go and stop living in the 12th century.

Cheeky *******s!!
