The National Curriculum

This is my first real post so please excuse me if this is the wrong place or if this subject has been done to death but I am a strong believer that the UK National Curriculum should not be controlled by the Government as it is.

Education is one of the most powerful tools on the planet; it has the power to make people buy things (most forms of advertising could be classed as a form of education) to helping persuade a nation that a war is just.

This may seem an extreme example but as a fairly recent student I was only taught that Global warming was a man made occurrence and that the Greenhouse gasses, most notably CO2 produced by countries such as our own, was going to be the cause of the end of the world unless we acted swiftly.

There is a valid argument to support this but there is also a compelling argument against the fact that global warming is man made or that we have any significant impact, but this is not covered on the current curriculum. Why? because it is a way for the current government to gain support for policies which are apparently "in the best in the country" but i believe it is in the best interest of the general public to understand both sides of the argument and let them decide for themselves.

So back to the point, i believe the national curriculum should be controlled by a body of experts elected from within their specializations and with no attachment to the Government.
