| The announcement by the health secretary regarding water fluoridation and it's safety is founded on bad science. Fluoride in water does not help dental health and in fact can cause serious health problems in other parts of the body including bones, kidneys, testes or ovaries, and brain. Fluoride in toothpaste helps teeth because it is applied to the teeth directly, but if swallowed can cause serious illness. It's benefits are in topical, not systemic, applications. Fluoride is a cumulative poison. On average, only 50% of the fluoride we ingest each day is excreted through the kidneys. The remainder accumulates in our bones, pineal gland, and other tissues. If the kidney is damaged, fluoride accumulation will increase, and with it, the likelihood of harm. Fluoride already occurs naturally in the water in most of the country, and to artificially increase the dosages is extremely dangerous. Tooth decay has fallen all over western Europe for years and yet 98% of these countries do not fluoridate their water. Here is one site that I have found that is endorsed by more than 1400 scientists including Nobel Prize winners which gives some solid evidence. Water Fluoridation |
