| The under-representation of women within UK government Hello, I am interested in starting a general discussion on the under-representation of women, in particular BME women, within central and local government authorities. I would be grateful if people could post replies to one or more of the following questions. Q1. Do you think there are an under-representation of women, in particular BME women, within central and local government? Q2. Do you think it is important to have female representation within the more prominent roles of both central and local government? If yes, why do you think it is important for women to be represented within central and local government structures and affairs? If no, please explain why you think women do not need to be represented within central and local government affairs. Q3. Do you think female participation within central and local government makes a difference to political issues? Q4. What factors do you think contribute to the lack of female representation? Q5. What strategies do you think central and local government authorities should adopt to promote female representation and help BME women to proceed into more prominent roles? Q6. What do you think women in general can do to help themselves achieve more prominent roles within local government? Any views or general discussion around the topic would be much appreciated. |
