Speaker Michael Martin

I just wondered what people's view of the continuing saga of speaker michael martin ?

I do find it a little disturbing that this man is reviewing the MP expenses situation whilst he has obviously been exploiting it to his own ends.

Whilst i cannot hand on heart say i think he has done anything illegal, he has certainly stretched the spirit of the rules on MP expenses to the limit.

On occasion his performance in the house has been less than adequate, bordering on incompetent.

Whilst i am not quick to call for him to resign, i do feel that it may be time to alter the system for appointing speakers and maybe he/she should not be an MP, but someone truly independent from party politics.

food for thought.
