| Anti BNP left wing extremists attack the BNP The British National Party has hit out at "left wing extremists" it blames for plastering anti-BNP stickers on dozens of businesses around Petersfield town centre. During the bank holiday weekend shops and businesses throughout the town discovered small stickers on their property with a message denouncing the BNP and an image of a Nazi swastika. However, the party’s organiser for the south, Roger Robertson, said the act was a “desperate” attempt by the party’s rivals to make them out to be something they are not. “It is the only way left wing extremists can think of to try and destroy the BNP,” he said. “But it simply does not work.” As reported on page 2 of today’s Post both BNP candidates have withdrawn from next month’s district council elections. “We have had a number of withdrawals across the south for various reasons,” said Mr Robertson. “But we still have three times as many candidates sitting than this time last year.” PC Duncan Gordon of Petersfield Police said anyone with any information on the culprits who were putting up the stickers around the town centre, should contact the police. “Technically it is littering,” he said. “There is also an offence of fly-posting but perhaps more importantly there is the potential element of racial aggravation. “We would be interested if anyone had any information on who is doing it. “It seems to be anti-BNP and there are going to be some people who are offended by it.” Businesses in the High Street that were hit by the stickers included Corals, Cheltenham and Gloucester building society, The Post and The Edinburgh Woollen Mill. They started appearing on Saturday. Anyone with any details about this incident should contact the police on 0845 045 4545. http://www.petersfieldtoday.co.uk/Vi...icleID=2693158
