A Moray computer expert brought down the website of the British National Party because he was opposed to its advancement in the north-east, Elgin Sheriff Court was told yesterday.

Matthew Anderson, 29, forced the website of the BNP offline for two weeks in late 2004.


Around the same time he disrupted the Countryside Alliance website which was down for two days before being restored online.

The court was told that Anderson had been motivated by his dislike for the organisations and what they stood for.

Anderson, who runs his own computer company, admitted on indictment breaching the peace by disrupting the operation of websites in October 2004.

He had originally been charged under the Computer Misuse Act of infecting computers worldwide with a virus and instructing those computers to mount denial-of-service attacks on both the BNP and Countryside Alliance websites...........
