Number 29 took me a long time to discover for myself - but it is truely liberating once you realise how true it is. Thanks for that Midas!

To celebrate growing older, 50 lessons in life:
1. Life may not be fair, but it's still damn good.
2. When in doubt, just take the next small step. You’ll eventually get there as long as you keep going.
3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.
4. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
5. Pay off your credit cards every month.
6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree and move on.
7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.
8. It's OK to get angry; as long as it's constructive and directed anger.
9. Save for retirement, starting with your first pay cheque.
10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.
11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up your present or your future.
12. It's OK to let your children see you cry.
13. Don't compare your life to others'. You have no idea what their life journey is all about.
14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.
15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye; be prepared for it.
16. Life is too short for long pity parties. Get busy living or get busy dying.
17. You can get through anything as long as you stay focused.
18. Do what you want and what you're good at; life’s too short to worry about having future regrets.
19. It's never too late to have a happy childhood, but the second one is up to you and no one else.
20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.
21. Don't save things for a special occasion. Today is special, and there may not be a tomorrow.
22. Over prepare, then go with the flow.
23. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.
24. The most important sex organ is the brain.
25. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.
26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words: "In five years, will this matter?"
27. Always choose life.
28. Forgive everyone everything. Hate is destructive.
29. What other people think of you is none of your business, so why should you care.
30. Time heals almost everything. Give time, time.
31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
32. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends will. Stay in touch.
33. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.
34. Growing old beats the alternative – dying young.
35. Your children get only one childhood. Make it memorable.
36. Get outside every day. The world is wonderful.
37. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab our own back.
38. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.
39. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.
40. All that truly matters, in the end, is that you loved.
41. Envy is a waste of time.
42. The best is yet to come.
43. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
44. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.
45. If you don't ask, you don't get.
46. If you know you're wrong, admit it and move on.
47. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift.
48. There’s no such thing as a free lunch.
49. You’re the most important person there is.
50. Don’t try to solve the unsolvable. Leave that for others to worry over.
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised 'for the good of its victims' may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us 'for our own good' will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." -- C.S. Lewis

"The object of universities is not to make skilful lawyers, physicians or engineers. It is to make capable and cultivated human beings." John Stewart Mill
I know exactly what you mean O74! You can waste a great deal of time worrying about how others perceive you when it doesn't really matter a damn; perhaps qualified by adding "as long as you're confident in yourself".
Number 13 is also a very important one along similar lines.
Great list Midas but number 49 becomes null and void once you have kids![]()

When I turned 50 my mentor (who was about age 63 at the time) told me that 90% of everything useful he knew he had learned since he turned 50.
Your list is what he was talking about.
All people that believe in abortion should pay heed to to:
27. Always choose life
Anybody that believes in redistribution of wealth should pay attention to:
48. There’s no such thing as a free lunch.
My favorite is:
35. Your children get only one childhood. Make it memorable.

I must be butter because I'm on a roll.
