Hi Julia, welcome to the forum

What's the main difference between hypocrisy in everyday life and in politics? Probably that in politics it's very much more public and very much more obvious, yet politicians still carry on as normal, completely ignoring much of what's being said about them are about what they've done. In private, at least hypocrisy is much more on a one to one level.
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised 'for the good of its victims' may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us 'for our own good' will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." -- C.S. Lewis

That rather depends on the position of the everyday hypocrite; you don't have to be a politician to be in a position of power over other people's lives, for example a hypocritical religious leader could do as much damage, or teacher or bank manager.

Not that I'm being defensive, but if that was directed towards my reply, I agree with you entirely. I was simply pointing out that hypocrisy amongst politicians was the most noticeable, not that it necessarily inflicted more damage on individual people's lives in the way that your examples can.

It was meant as agreement and furthering of your reply.

Hi Midas, thank you for your reply.
I fully agree with you. But actually I wonder is it easier to be a hypocrite for a man or for a woman? When you think about hypocrisy what picture comes to your mind? As for me, I such picture comes to my mind: one is smiling to you and keeps a weapon behind.

Well, being male I'm bound to say the female of the species aren't I But in all honesty I don't think there's a great deal of difference. Perhaps women can be more hypocritical when it comes to personal matters and men when it comes to business matters, but your guess is probably as good as mine on that one. As long as you keep that weapon well hidden of course

Yeah, that's that. Maybe, it depends on the shere of communication - it's natural for men to be preoccupied with business matters and for women to spend more time being engaged with all personal things. But how can we recognize a hypocrite? Are there any signs?
