The coroner has just confirmed his death.

Party time for those he abused.

I'm not going to get all giddy about it. You can just put me in the "Who Gives a ****" column. There's been nothing else on the cable news shows since this story broke. I mean, sure, it's news-worthy and should have been announced, but, in the grand scheme of things, it's really not that significant.

I never met him. I'm not crying but I'm not cheering either. He did a huge amount to influence the course of music, and for that he deserves commemoration. As for pedophilia, who knows? He was pretty screwed up mentally, so its possible, but he was never convicted.

I for one believe that MJ was a true genius and will be missed by millions and is certainly one of the finest artists I have witnessed in my life time. As well as that he was a father to three children who no doubt loved him as well as a brother to 6 (I think) and a son to his mother. The man was only fifty and according to anyone who ever met him was humble and with no great ego.

Of course there are those without any understanding of the mental problems he had gone through. Yes jacko was wacko. He was badly abused by his father, although not sexually and never had a real childhood. He loved children and attempted to re-live his childhood by spending time with them. It is well documented that he may have even of slept with a few, like most of us did when we were children our selves, however that does NOT mean he had any sexual contact. I feel sorry for the sad individuals that can not understand that a man in his mental state could not behave like a child without accusing him of being a nonse.
Michael Jackson was "A" sexual and not a pervert. I would ask those doubters to remember that the courts rejected any allegations of improper behaviour. He pumped millions of $ into charity and only wanted to bring pleasure into many peoples lives. Personally I find some of your posts disgusting and without any real thought or compassion.

    Michael Jackson rest in peace.

I seem to remember him being cleared of abusing anyone. Jacko was as mad as a box of frogs, that there is no doubt, however he was NOT a nonse. He was doing nothing more than living his childhood and sleep overs were just a part of that. Needless to say that wasn't right either, but what the hell were the parents of the kids in question letting them stay over at a middle aged mans house anyway.

I am in my fifties and can only remember two other pop artists that have died who have had such an impact in the music world, neither of which I particularly liked. Elvis and John Lennon.

Cagan is right (!) his influence is probably only surpassed by Lennon and Elvis, and there's no doubting some of his earlier stuff, (up till HIStory tour) was groundbreaking music. Unfortunately I find it hard to seperate the man from the music, and so his notable acheivements will always be tainted. But his iconic status is undisputed.

I'm amazed he lasted this long. We must wait for the drug test results but he's likely to have been filled with an explosive mixture of prescription drugs. When you're that wealthy, as mad as a hatter, with your own doctor, and dozens of sycophantic hangers-on who won't tell you the truth, you can get any drug you want and spurn all health advice.

I don't like his music, his skin-whitening was an insult to blacks, his relationship with record companies and promoters was culturally highly damaging, and there's now going to be a tremendous bitch-fight over his pile of cash, plus Lady Di-type hysteria and conspiracy theories designed to whip up record sales. I'm glad he's gone to be honest. The world's a better place without him. Sorry, no offence to his fans.
