Tell me what to do with my life.

I've been inspired by boredom and the help of Midas and others to take a day to look at colleges in the UK while I'm grounded. The only thing I've been having a problem with is determining the selectivity of colleges since we take different tests; but I've also read that colleges will take into account SAT scores for international students. Sussex apparently accepts scores above 1800. I'm not sure what kind of reputation that university has, though. I'm still pretty ignorant. So what schools do you think I could get into? I've also read that universities across the pond don't really care about extracurricular activities. Bummer.

I received a 2010 on my SATs and I have a 3.8333 GPA. I have yet to take any AP tests. I'm a little distraught because my school doesn't offer very many AP courses except in science which isn't my forte.
I must be butter because I'm on a roll.

Each university ought to have entrance requirements for overseas students on their webistes. The Times produces a league table of universities as a starting point for further research:

It's a good university, though certainly not among the best. On extracurricular thing, universities care about them, and it can often be the tipping point in being made an offer. That said, we don't have the insane scholarship scheme where a top football player will get into Cambridge with no intellectual test.

All a little meaningless to me As I said, take a look at various universities' websites. If they don't have specific requirements, then they all have email addresses for enquiries about them

I want to do some overseas study as well, thankfully my chosen Uni offers one year of your course at an overseas uni of your choice (from a whole bunch that they're linked with) the problem is now I can't choose where to go! I want to learn a language, so I'm taking Chinese or Arabic up at Uni, but I'm not going ANYWHERE near the Middle East, although Taiwan looks nice. At the same time I love the UK and Ireland, so I'm torn...

If you give me some idea of what you would like to study at uni i may be able to offer you some advice, as i have a rough idea what unis have good reputations in what subject. For example Loughborough has a very good name in 'sports science', Essex in Political science, UEA in Eviromental studies/ science, LSE in economics and so on..

Sorry but like Doug these numbers mean very little to me I'm afraid.

I'm thinking law. That's generally not a major we have here in the US. But since I plan on going to law school....I guess it works.

I'm doing law next year so I've been through all the hassle already. To get you started, here's a list of the better universities for law in England in terms of how employers in the UK view them. They're layed out in groups, and within these groups are in no particular order:

    Cambridge
    Oxford

    London School of Economics
    University College London
    King's College London
    Bristol
    Durham
    Nottingham

    Birmingham
    Exeter
    Southampton
    Newcastle
    Cardiff
    Warwick
    Manchester
    Sussex (to an extent).

This isn't exhaustive and it's very subjective anyway, but it gives a very, very basic starting point.

    Cardiff
Minor point - Cardiff isn't in England! Just thought it might be worth pointing out.

Fair point! I should have made it clear that I meant English LAW, as law schools in Scotland teach quite different systems to schools in England and Wales. Apologies.
