Well, Mrs. Tantal had the baby on Monday and both are still in the hospital. The care is beyond excellent! Mrs. Tantal had a C-section and baby is in the NICU due to having come a bit early, so we may be coming home without him. I'll have to pay my deductibles and co-pays, but the insurance company will pick up the rest. I shudder at the thought of going through this ordeal in a place with socialized medicine.
For general, routine issues, the NHS may be OK; however, if you're REALLY sick or REALLY injured, there's no better place than the U.S. to get care. If I get shot or burned, send me to Parkland Hospital in Dallas. If I get cancer, send me to M.D. Anderson in Houston. I'd trust any of those facilities far more than any place in Europe or Canada. Have you ever noticed what Heads of State or royalty in a foreign country do when the chips are down medically? They get their arses on a plane to the U.S. Sure, we could be a little more efficient and implement some measures to bring costs down, but as far as QUALITY goes, we're untouchable.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised 'for the good of its victims' may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us 'for our own good' will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." -- C.S. Lewis
Congratulations on the new arrival!
We had our first grandchild on July 6th. Like your experience we were very please with the medical care.
My daughter in law got the best treatment possible. She was in a large single room with a couch and easy chairs and even a fold out bed for the husband to spend the night. It was a nicer room than many hotels rooms that I have stayed in my life.
The staff was excellent and had there been a problem they had everything they needed to treat the child or mother.
I could not imagine better facilities or treatment.
My son will have a very affordable deduction/co-payment. His insurance plan will pick up the rest.
America has the best health care in the world. This stupid socialize medicine plan will do nothing but destroy it.
Congratulations! What are you going to call the baby?
Also extend congratulations to the lovely Mrs. Tantal (I can see why she had a C-section).
Selling the NHS to predator nationals would rapidly increase quality, waiting lists etc. tenfold. Social Darwinism!
I'm never going to make government here...
CONGRATULATIONS! Wonderful news, hope Mother and baby are doing well and he will be home with you soon.
Not the place for it but quick two points, my little boy was also a preemie and the care he and I received was faultless on the NHS. Secondly the future King of England (William) was born at St. Mary's Hospital, Paddington, so if it's good enough for royalty then it's good enough for me!
But forget the politics for now and enjoy your baby whilst he is still one!

Congratuations Tantal! I won't bother making any political points...

Guy Outside the Chilcott Enquiry as he was led away by police for causing a 'disturbance' (thanks to LA I now know his name is Michael Culver)
I'm almost afraid to post his name on this board for fear of laughter, but I will. His name is Britton Maddox......and, no, the name has absolutely nothing to do with you Limeys.
Mrs. Tantal and I were watching "Superbikes" on the Speed Channel one night when the host, Jason Britton (professional stunter/factory rider for ICON), came on. For some reason, Mrs. Tantal and I both liked the name.
He's still in the NICU right now, but not in any danger. We'll probably get to take him home on Saturday. Thanks for all the good wishes.

That's a lovely name! You know it's a subconscious tribute to us really!
