Reduce the consumer throw away society.

The world will eventually end up as one gigantic plastic rubbish dump if it continues to follow the road of the consumer throw away society. The world has to pull back from the brink, and governments should be sitting down and discussing how to stop producing the millions of unnecessary trivial plastic throw away items packaging and toys produced every year.

Apart from global warming this is the second greatest threat to the future of mankind. The continued production for the sake of profit of the millions of frivolous items that are poisoning the planet is an outrageous misuse of toxic material. The danger is twofold first, by the actual production process and then, the finished product which will not degrade for thousands of years.

The seas and aquatic life are also being poisoned not only by oil spillage but by the amount of plastic which finds itself dump in the oceans.

I feel guilty every time I am forced to use a plastic bag which is fortunately not very often. I shudder when a washing machine or any other item which is plastic wrapped is delivered to me.

Massive damage has already been done but we can avoid leaving more of this toxic legacy to future generations if action is taken now.

The only stumbling block is the capitalist ideology of if you can sell it, make it. More international state intervention is needed to to curb this irresponsible philosophy the smoking ban is an example of what can be done when it comes down to the health of the nations. True, it's not yet universal but a promising start has been made.

All the excessive use of plastic can be stopped, the only reason so much is used is that consumers demand it. It we as consumers tell companies that we want them to waste less plastic. They will be forced to reduce it's use if enough are against it.

Plastic for the use of what is deemed as modern utility household items and for instance the production car manufacturing and the use for house building etc is obviously with us until such time until [if ever] it is decided to reduce its use in these fields.

A start could be made to stop the millions of other non utility items such as cheap toys which are discarded uncontrolled by the worlds population into the sea and on land.

It is really sad when you look at that, it shows you just how huge an influence we have had on this planet
