What's the worst of the worst.
[Sharing] TIME?The 10 Worst Things About the Worst Decade Ever - Global Times Forum--Discuss China,Discuss the world--The Most Open and Objective Forum in China
here is a list of ten worst things in the last decade, which one do you think is the worst.
BTW, I think the poll is very much America-oriented.
I choose Iraq war.
But as a Chinese, I think 512 earthquake last year in China is the worst for us.
I think the tsunami simply because of the death it caused. Guantanamo is a horrible, horrible thing but I'd rather keep it going for another decade than have another tsunami.
Erm, Iraq, with Guantanamo and Tsunami behind.
Anyone who sys market meltdown.....
Why have two people said that 9/11 was the worst thing in the decade?
That is so selfish!
Trouble is, you have man made and natural "worsts". I'd be inclined to pick a man made one, since it could have been averted
Bloody hell what a terrible decade it really has been! All those things are horrible, I'm not sure I can pick one over the other.
FWIW 9/11 was arguably, at the time, the most shocking event to have happened in fifty years (in terms of magnitude and being unexpected). Certainly to the USA. To consider the event as the worst is not selfish, it's just an alternate perspective.
"The object of universities is not to make skilful lawyers, physicians or engineers. It is to make capable and cultivated human beings." John Stewart Mill
Guantanamo. It was the US saying to the world:
"F*ck you. We don't care about justice, due process, human rights, the dignity of man, innocence or guilt, truth or falsehood. Attack us and this is what you get."
Ugh, I knew someone like you would comment on that...
The reason I voted for that was simple, 9/11 bad in its own right, but it also directly led to the War in Afghanistan, and indirectly to the War in Iraq. Without 9/11, neither of them would have occurred. It also led to Guantanomo, which I have no idea why that's on there. The resulting wars also deepened the economic crisis, making it far more serious than it would have been.
Guantanamo, purely because it was the death of the west at the forefront of Justice.
I have to say 9/11 when I saw the news on the day it looked like a shot from a film until the realisation hit home, this is happening for real. It could have been any building in the world, a school, a hospital, the pictures were shocking. And can it happen again? Yes!
I was at work on 9/11 when the lad from the next bench came over ashen white. He told us of the calamity that had unfolded on his wireless. I laughed. I didn't believe him. Always the joker. Then My wife phoned in confusion she was led to believe everywhere had gone to war. The wireless didn't work in that car, so I couldn't get the news.
When I got home I watched BBC news 24 looping the same footage for over two hours.
I watched a queer guy covered in crap who had just brought people out. The news man urged him to go get some more! I hated that, 'cause that man. That hero, he's probably dead now.
I can only imagine the inner turmoil of those who jumped from great hights.
Not one of those who were killed or injured. Not one of those whose families deserved to recieve what they got on that day.
It was an act that was worse than evil. It was plotted and followed through by cowards.
I hate this topic. It insults me. I never knew one of those people. But they are my kin. They were going about their day. And they were killed because of some sick b stard twisted religion that should NEVER have any hold on any western way.
Of course it was a tragedy, Of course the families didn't deserve it. But neither do the families of the thousands of innocent Iraqi civilians who are being killed, caught between the Brits/Yanks and fundamentalists.
A lot of people when talking about 9/11 get very caught up in the idea of it being completely on its own, without thinking about the massive causalities in warn torn parts of the globe. Compared to that 9/11 is small fry.
I don't dispute this, Smithy. Not one little bit. I know it's awful. All of that list is awful.
But in some way I see this as a sneek attack and hitting the innocent for no good reason. The wars were threatened before hand. And as such, they could have been averted.
But the thing is, Smithy. This is my own opinion. The question wasn't about the definitive worst by all measure, but what we think. And that was what I think.
