Cool Who's going to win the World 2010?

Who's going to win the World 2010?

Now the speculators will looking at who is going to win the World Cup in 2010? And of course every amateur manager will be aranging the players for the England team. So let us join in the spirit of the game and have a go at forming a team. I'm not forgetting the forum members from other countries, they can form their own teams for their respective countries. And for those that do not like soccer can join in by saying why they do not like it. One rule when naming a team you can have eleven players plus three subs.

    My team as follows: 4-4-3

    Goalkeeper: Ben Foster.
Defenders: John Terry, Ashley Cole, Rio Ferdinand & Joleon Lescott.
Midfielders: Frank Lampard, Jermaine Jenas & Theo Walcott.
Forwards: Wayne Rooney, Gabriel Agbonlahor & Peter Crouch
Subs: Wayne Bridge, Steven Gerrard & Darren Bent.

Enjoy the banter, there are bound to be arguments over which should be included or excluded, whether we have any better goalkeepers or what. With six months to the tournament I am sure we can keep it going.

    & do we care?

    Hi,

should the entire tedious and pointless excercise be cancelled for the sake of the environment or to encourage the indollent voyers to take excercise rather than watch it.

    Regards,
    Greg L-W.

I have been of the opinion for a few years now that the National football team needs a rethink.Though the players themselves support the more traditionally English formations of 4-4-2 or 4-4-3 I am a believer in the 5-3-2 or 3-5-2 formations. The reasons being we do not have very good full backs, though we do have half decent "wing backs" .Our center halves are far from "World class" as has been surgested so the insurance of having an extra one is a bonus.
The middle field can be loaded with creative players (the extra center half again) Forwards are dependant opposition.(attacking or defensive) to start. The formation is also easy to adapt during the game.(svens downfall).
To win the competition any team is going to have to go through a penalty shoot out at some stage. This alas is where it will end in tears for England. If we can avoid the spot kicks ???

    Anyway the team

    James

    Terry Woodgate Ferdinand

    Johnson A Cole
    Gerrard Lampard J Cole

    Wallcott Rooney

    subs Milner ,Hardgreaves, Owen

Or... you get a team full of cheats and divers win as many free kicks and penalties as you can and play Beckham.

Glad your not our manager. You have put Jenus in and left out DeFoe. As a Spurs fan myself I find that very strange, albeit that one is a mid fielder and the other a striker. I also find it strange you have left out our best player in Gerrard.

In my humble opinion the starting line would be.

Robinson (probably the best we have at the moment)
    Ashley Cole, Terry, Ferdinand, Lescott
    Joe Cole, Lampard, Gerrard, Milner
    Rooney, De Foe

Unfortunately although I think this is our best starting line up, I also feel that we haven't got a chance in hell of winning the World Cup. Brazil or Spain I think

I'm a Spurs fan and I would also take Defoe (yes ahead of Owen)

Why is everyone missing out Lennon?

    My team would be:

    GK: James

    RB: Johnson
    LB: A.Cole

    CB: Woodgate/Ferdinand
    CB: Terry

    RM: Lennon
    LM: Milner/J. Cole

    CM: Gerrard/Lampard
    CM: Barry/Carrick

    CF: Rooney
    CF: Crouch/Defoe

How is ANYONE choosing Lescott?! Have you not seen him "play" for Man City? I don't think you can leave out Defoe based on form but for me he is not world class

    Hi,

the last time I took ANY interest in footbal was a Celtic Wolves Game in about 1958 or 1959 and the only interest I had then was how soon would it end! Screaming hoards of people herded around like sheep in the freezing cold watching 22 people chasing a pigs bladder!!

I can well understand why coach loads stop in the car parks the length and breadth of Britain wearing scarves and funny hats - I guess even badger watching is an improvement! At least it is fundamentally a participatory sport rather overweight, drunken and aggresive voyers!

I see now they play with 16 a side!

    Regards,
    Greg L-W.

I'm undecided in players for certain positions therefore provided an either / or option.

    Hi,

does that explain why you are not paid an obscene amount of money to manage a bunch of foreign ball kickers and pretend they are a British 'team'?

Whilst ill manneredly displaying an oaflike ability abusing people from the touchline?

    Regards,

    Hi,

sorry - I could possibly afford a Fiver if that helps

Foreign Ball Kicker - I endlessly hear football reports at the end of news before I switch it off and it does seem that very few footballers of note are British and to judge by Britain's achievements on the world stage over the last 43 years they seem not to be much use - Big on rhetoric and low on delivery!

Foreign Ball Kickers - those who are not of caucasian British origin.

    Regards,
    Greg L-W.

Some clubs would have to go if there were no foreigners allowed.

Nothing to do with my bias, I think Owen is passed it. Yes I know he scored a hat trick the other day, but HONESTLY he isn't the man for the job.

might that not have merit and encourage participation rather than importing these entertainers?

World cup 2010 england for victory!

I think it will be England. We have the team, we have the commitment and we have a first rate manager, although he is an Italian, he seems to be focused, and getting results; I thought he might be too partisen. Harry Redknap was my choice -afterall Portsmouth (my team) won the FA cup under him.

I think 2010 will be Britain"s year - WIN THE WORLD CUP! AND KICK OUT GORDON BROWN!
