I'll admit to not knowing much about UKIP, but I am extremely skeptical of handing over ANY national sovereignty to an international body. Where do the Tories stand on the E.U. issue?

So unproductive has conservatism been in producing a general conception of how a social order is maintained that its modern votaries, in trying to construct a theoretical foundation, invariably find themselves appealing almost exclusively to authors who regarded themselves as liberal. - F.A. Hayek

I think the tories do know their own position on the EU but would prefer you didn't. The establishment in this country work hard to keep EU discussion off the agenda. The tory party are a part of the establishment. Inside the tory party you will find a split on this issue. Any genuine conservative will be completely against the idea as it does not align with real conservative values - I'd estimate this is the majority - but it's not party line so they need to be careful what they say to who. The rest of them will be bandwagon guys. They've seen the opportunity for a bit of trough snuffling and the chance to further line their comfy nests. Of course there will also be a slither of genuine EUROPhiles who've believe the rhetoric and think there is actually a moral and politically just reason for doing this to the people of Europe. I think, basically, the tory line handed down from HQ on the EU can be summed up like this: "Careful now, don't ROCK THE BOAT, we don't want to lose this election so let's not mention the EU"
I suppose the reason there's so much confusion is down to the fact that party officials support it, it can't be discussed and the majority don't believe in it. I'll bet it's a major frustration for them.
UKIP has been going since about 1994 and was setup to try to reverse the damaging changes being forced on British and European societies. We want more democracy and we want the EU project stopped. The USSR was a bad thing, we don't want a repeat of that. To get support for those ideals we aren't particularly fussy about who joins us and what their own agenda is. All they have to do is pay their membership fee and support our ideals. Even better if they help us fight for them. We have as many people from Labour as we do from the Conservatives, the party is a vibrant mixture. We've left discriminatory politics behind. We're not left-wing, we're not right-wing, we aren't working class or middle class, we're not black, white or yellow. We're not fussy where you come from or who you are, We have a couple of very important common goals and a moderate manifesto... We're all working together to get our country back. The main British parties have failed this country and we are here to undo the damage, hopefully sooner rather than later. Coming 2nd in the 2009 EU elections was a big boost for us. 3rd in the General Election with a few UKIP MP's in Westminster would be a fantastic result. Nobody should feel guilty about voting for UKIP - it's a moderate party with good ideals and a sound purpose and everybody should vote UKIP this time.
The press and the BBC hate us though... so makes our job all the more difficult. Life is challenging sometimes!
