That's good though, the govt has little money and overtime is very expensive.

The handover of one shift to another with a continuing flow of the job in hand is more likely to be successfully completed without the need for overtime payments if it were not done during the pursuit of criminals.

    Seems about right

So is policing in general, lets just get rid of the police altogether.
We can allow criminals to fight for turf and the winners can be our local protectors, sounds like a great Idea.

    Just to make REALLY SAFE......
Every copper should work 24 hours a day- 7 days a week. Better yet, everyone gets 5 personal police guards. No holidays for cops, and f we see some guys looking shifty 2 am we should be allowed to wake the nearest of duty cop. Cops should never get any rest- because we're all so ****ing scared.

Im not scared, even when im back in blighty, even my wife aint scared but she does tell folks that she is Canadien to avoid dust ups.

Just a thought though, how often since NULAB have the cops either chased, pursued or even investigated Criminals, arent they too busy forcing Nulab policys, that and arrestin people for mentioning the names of the troops who have died or selling bananas by the pound, serious threats to the government I guess!!!!

    That doesn't make sense.
If they are on duty 24 hours a day, how will you find an off duty copper?
How could anyone look shifty when they are walking around with 5 police guards?
Maybe you need to think over your plan a little longer, when less tired.

Yet another pointless waste of space by NP and those who troll the thread. Why don't you all simply ignore these inane ramblings!

Re: Police told not to chase criminals at end of a shift 'to cut down on overtime pay

Up until not too long ago, cops in rural areas were on duty 24 hours a day. You were required to "work" at least 8 hours during that period, but you decided when those hours were. For instance, if I had to do a School visit, then I'd perhaps work from 9am-12pm, then have the afternoon off and do another 5 hours in the evening, when I could get folks at home and also see the pubs out at closing time. Of course is someone needed a cop at 3am, then you just got out of bed and dealt with the job..................no overtime, you merely adjusted the next days hours to compensate for the extra worked.
It is better to remain quiet and appear stupid, than to open ones mouth and remove all doubt
