Belize pays for the pleasure Ashcroft's shady tax dealings

"Telemedia, Belize's Telecoms provider which Ashcroft ended up controlling, following a series of bitterly contested laws suits. A near monopoly has seen consumers pay a hefty price for its services. costs more than in the UK and mobile phones calls are more expensive

"As Telemedia has developed its range of services, the profits have rolled in thanks to an extraordinary secret "accommodation agreement" it signed in 2005. The agreement guaranteed the government would make up any short fall if the company failed to achieve a minimum 15% return on its investments

"The confidential agreement made in four separate documents obtained by the Observer, came to light only when the new government assumed power. It caused outrage in Belize where Telemedia has since demanded tens of millions of dollars arguing the government must keep to the terms of the agreement signed by its predecessor"

A Belize government spokesman said "he [Lord Ashcroft] doesn't believe in free markets; he believes in monopolies." Observer 1.11.09.

This despicable multi billionaire creep is not above sucking the life's blood out of a poverty stricken Belize economy and people. He is now tipped for a top Tory foreign job.

No one has established if he pays taxes in Britain and is soon to skew the whole of the British electoral system by injecting millions of pounds into Tory marginal constituencies.
