Apparently she will be getting more involved in the campaign. Given the popularity of Sarah Brown (no bugger thought to make her party leader) is this a bad mistake? Is Samantha Camerons staying out of these things a better bet?

Well Sarah Brown is a darn sight better looking than Gordo, so maybe we can get her and Samantha to do a mud wrestle for the election...The result will be the same but at least the male population of the nation gets some enjoyment before where shagged for another five years by one of the husbands..

I don't see anything wrong in politician's wives (or husbands as appropriate) playing a supporting role in political campaigns, but I would qualify that by saying as long as they don't go off trying to be the centre of attention themselves, thus diverting attention away from the main objective.

I do believe that might be within the remit for which she was paid but regret that Sarah Macaulay might well enjoy that! Should she not be available I am sure Ms Julia Hobsbawm would willingly stand in.

Honestly, I don't like it! It all seems very American to me (that's not actually a criticism it's just a phenomenon I think suits their sensibilities more).
Why should I care whether a PM is married or not and whether the person they fell in love with is pretty, fashionable, intellegent or as thick as a plank, or of the same gender or even exist? I'm casting a vote for the politician not his or her plus one. If it's because Samantha will play a role on behalf of the nation then she should stand for election herself.

next they will be providing us with affidavits as to their sexual abilities - Clegg boasts he will need 30 of them - a real toe curling stupidity.

Think how much better off we would all have been never to have heard of Mrs. Blair - or for that matter Blair.

This does not sit well with me at all.
I agree with Ops. I don't want a politicians husband or wife getting involved.
Denis Thatcher had pretty much the right idea.
