How uncomfortable I feel for DC watching that video.
    You know why?
He wasn't briefed properly, and the video has been obviously edited to make him look stupid.
If DC wanted the interview run again, what a betrayal to then release the video to YouTube.
It all has a rather bad smell.

Certainly he was not well briefed, but wouldn't you expect a potential leader of the country to have been able to improvise much much better than that? Especially given he knew he was being interviewed for a special interest newspaper and therefore what most of the questions would be? God forbid, when he's PM, Putin phones him in the middle of the night for a chat and he has to improvise a lie to placate him.
I can't believe I just argued being a slick lier is a criteria necessary for a good PM

Does that historically go back to Jeremy Thorpe's leadership?

That is unfortunate, but very true.

Does that historically go back to Jeremy Thorpe's leadership?

One thing is now clear cut, the economy and not personalities will decide the outcome of the election. There is a stark choice facing the voters, how they perceive the Tories or Labour will handle the nasty medicine of serious cuts. The clear choice is cut now,[Tory policy], or cut later [Labour policy] Every other issue fades into insignificance by comparison.

A wrong decision in respect of this choice could send the country into a prolonged recession. This message is now clear in the mind of the electorate even those who in the past who were not inclined politically either way, every thing else is a side show. Whoever makes the most convincing case in this issue will garner support.

The Tories decision to go for a full on, personal poster attack on Brown is a risky gamble and and in the absence of any real policies that chime with the electorate, will smack of desperation in the lead up to the election. Whatever the Tories do to rubbish Brown, the voters will be brought back to the question, of whose policy in relation to cuts do they trust to guide the economy back to health. Signs are that it is Brown and Darling.

The novelty of TV debates, the first time ever in Britain, will draw people into the main issue, as there have never been such clear blue water between the two main parties on such a crucial decision facing the nation.
