    UFO hits wind turbine (maybe)

"UFO enthusiasts are claiming damage to a Lincolnshire wind farm turbine was caused by a mystery aircraft.

The turbine at Conisholme lost one 66ft (20m) blade and another was badly damaged in the early hours of Sunday.
County councillor for the area Robert Palmer said he had seen a "round, white light that seemed to be hovering".
Ecotricity, which owns the site, said while investigations continued they were not ruling anything out - but the extent of damage was "unique".
The turbine is one of 20 at the Conisholme site, which has been only been fully operational since April 2008. The broken blade has been recovered and is being examined.
Local ufologists said they had received many reports of activity in the area and had teams searching for clues."

Strictly speaking it is possible a UFO hit the turbine as UFO stands for Unidentified flying object , as for the extra terrestrial variety... i think a was more likely .

    LOL

That rather amused me, it is a little odd as these thing are huge and chances are if a flying object hit it then it would be reasonable to say that object would be damaged.
I mean after all it is a huge blade and that blade could do some damage.

However I am more likely to believe this to be a natural accident but I will always keep an open mind never say never!

It would be amusing to think an Alien boy racer was being given a right rollocking for crashing into a wind turbine ...

Always assuming such aliens knew what such a primitive thing as a wind turbine was in the first place! After all, when you've got enough power to be an intergalactic traveller......

    Thread Update

"RAF 'ordered to shoot down UFOs'

Pilots have apparently fired upon the unidentified objects without success since the 1980s, according to Nick Pope, who used to run the Ministry of Defence's UFO project.
"There was a faction in the MoD who said 'We want to shoot down a UFO and that will resolve the issue one way or another'," he told The Sun.
"We know of cases where the order has been given to shoot down - with little effect to the UFO."
Mr Pope claimed that the RAF only attempted to engage when the mysterious objects were perceived to be a threat.
He said: "In the case of UFOs, whether the object is causing a threat is very much a pilot's judgement call. The public won't know unless it comes down in a heavily populated area."
    The MoD refused to comment.
Earlier this month, residents in the Lincolnshire Wolds were left puzzled by the destruction of a wind turbine within hours of several sightings of strange glowing orbs.
At least half a dozen residents reported seeing the orange-yellow spheres, which some witnesses claimed were trailing tentacles.
Dorothy Willows, who lives a mile and a half from the wind farm, said she saw a "low-flying object skimming across the sky towards the turbines" on January 4.
The following morning, a 213ft glass fibre turbine was left crippled, with locals reporting hearing a loud bang like thunder.
One of the £1 million turbine's 65ft blades was ripped off and another severely damaged"

Could it be the damage caused to the turbines was the result of RAF attempts to shoot down ET !? Not a very clever first contact strategy ....

    And Finally ....

    "Broken wind turbine mystery solved

Speculation over what caused the mysterious destruction of a giant wind turbine in northern England - with everything from UFOs to the freezing winter weather taking the blame - was put to rest, after the culprit was found to be a mundane broken bolt.
The turbine manufacturer Enercon ... published preliminary results of its investigation on Tuesday saying that a broken bolt was responsible for the mishap.
The firm said that the bolts securing the blade to the turbine's hub "exhibited classic signs of fatigue failure".
It added that though the bolts themselves had shown no flaws, it appears that a component part on either side had "induced stress in the bolts beyond their design limits".

Safe to remove the tin foil hats , the ufologists must be very disappointed (again) although the chances of the government telling us they discovered alien goo on the blades would be slim to non existent

Thanks for posting the update Albion, but what a disappointment the cause was so prosaic

    Cool Oh No!

I'm afraid you've just p*ssed on my parade there, I was rolling with the E.T. theory it was so much more exciting than any other likely reason.
