Leetspeak

This is not a historical conspiracy theory but I believe a possible current one...

On the internet there is the increasing use of the "Leetspeak" form of language (Leet - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

Now this may seem harmless enough, but does it not remind anyone of George Orwell’s Newspeak (Newspeak - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

The ever decreasing vocabulary, the combination of words...

I even heard someone use "lol" in speech the other day instead of laughing.

These words are in a sense combining many words into one and stripping them of their original meaning. And while this Newspeak is from a fictional book, this form of language change is notable in many authoritative societies.

Orwell himself gave real life examples of this (taken from the book) such as Comintern and Nazi, "which (in theory) will eventually render the framing of heretical thoughts impossible."

So, this may seem crazy, but wait till 2050, we'll see what happens...lol
