The government has rejected US accusations against of violating UN Darfur Arms Embargo aimed at limiting transfer of military hardware and limiting violence in Darfur made by Susan Rice, at a closed session of the UN Security Council yesterday when she expressed the US' concern about renewal of violence in Darfur.
Sudan's Ambassador to UN, Abdul Mahmoud Abdul Halim said Rice was "swimming against the current of subjectivity and common sense," adding "What we expect of her is to reinforce the ongoing peace process and not unnecessary notions about UN Security Council Sanctions Committee."
Dr. Mutrif Sidiq, state Minister for Foreign Affairs, during his meeting yesterday with the Commander of United Nations-African Union Mission troops in Darfur, Gen. Patrick, over developments of conditions in east Jebel Marah in the wake of fierce clashes which erupted among Sudan Liberation Movement-Abulwahid Omhammed Nur's groups.
Mutrif notified UNAMID Forces Commander that calmness was prevailing in the region and that things were getting back to normal. According to Foreign Affair's spokesperson, Muawia Osman Khalid, the government and the Mission agreed to carry out joint assessment of conditions and make exploratory tours in the region to specify humanitarian needs besides extending the operation of humanitarian agents in regions which were inaccessible during the clashes. He added that the two parties had underlined the importance of delivery of humanitarian aids to the needy as soon as possible.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised 'for the good of its victims' may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us 'for our own good' will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." -- C.S. Lewis
I wonder why the things that should be so simple, so natural... like loving someone and letting them see into your heart... should require so much courage?
