    Israel facing a new Intifada

After Israeli troops attacked the Peace Convoy in the morning of 31st of May it became obvious that it was the best moment for pressing upon Israel. During the recent years this country has been violating international law too openly: it uses British and Australian passports to carry out acts of terrorism in foreign countries, continues building of settlements in Palestinian territories, and now it has come to actual piracy. Information is to be spread extremely actively now; for example, photos of killed human rights activists or crates with cookies stained with blood. Formally, Israel is right: the blockade was launched long ago, the territories were occupied, and human rights activists were warned about possible responsibility.
A session of the Security Council is to be called for; sanctions, eliminating of the blockade, and launching of humanitarian missions are to be demanded. Pressing can be carried out using massive meetings in front of embassies, boycott of Israeli goods, and departing of Israeli diplomats.
In theory, it is high time for Russia to remember about its own concerns in the Middle East. Russian neutrality allows interfering the situation, condemning Israel, and proposing guarantees of peaceful reconciliation of the conflict. Together with Turkey, Russia is to call for a session of the UN Security Council and to bring this act of state-level terrorism to the highest level of international discussion. It would also allow to improve the authority of the UN, which the president Dmitry Medvedev is talking about so often.
In fact, Russia allows various foreign political powers to manipulate with Russian opinion concerning the current situation. Yevgeny Satanovsky, the president of the pro-Israel Middle East Institute, was the first to comment upon the event from the Russian side in his interview to official broadcasting station “Voice of Russia”. He named the attack righteous and called for an immediate occupation of the Gaza Strip by the Israeli forces. This means that, unlike Turkey, Russia does not have any strategy in the Middle East.
And if Russia stays aside fruitful actions are unlikely to be taken against Israel.

Re: Israel facing a new Intifada

The Intifada of WW2 has never ended. It has been continuous.
Hitler's proxies, the Arabs in the second world war, now Iran, Hezbollah, Lebanon, Hamas, Fatah, Muslim brotherhood, still have only one objective, the elimination of the State of Israel, and along with it all Jews.
if you wish to side with these people, do so, but I am on the side of Israel, who are struggling against every form of hatred, to wipe them off the map.

It is also worth mentioning that Israel's intent with it's blockade is to stop these ships, inspect them for weapons then let them pass. Israel is not denying humanitarian aid to Gaza. Note also that other ships in the flotilla were searched without violence.
I wonder why the things that should be so simple, so natural... like loving someone and letting them see into your heart... should require so much courage?

Israel certainly has every right to inspect these cargo ships, considering the mere fact that there is no 'new' intifada--only multiple phases to a continuous one.

A very large part of the hatred against Israel arose immediately the state was formed simply because of the way the region was carved up under British mandate to the huge detriment of Palestine, which to this day has never been accorded statehood. Subsequent hatred has been maintained because of Israel's constant land grabs from surrounding countries and its refusal to stick to its national borders given to it in 1948. Given that, and the fact that Israel has treated the Palestinians both in its occupied territories and in Gaza with little more concern than it would give to animals, it's hardly surprising that organisations like Hezbollah and Hamas have risen to such power. If you trample on people long enough, they'll rebel and use whatever means they can to try to hit back at their oppressor.

Sorry Don, but Israel has constantly denied humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza, blocking convoy after convoy. They're currently allowing just 75 trucks a day to enter the territory, and that's to provide food and other aid to approximately 1.3 million people, a tiny fraction of what's needed and what would be provided if the Israeli government weren't so bloody minded about it. As far as the flotilla is concerned, after the condemnation it's received from around the world for it's actions on the first ships, it's of little wonder that Israel has backed off on the remainder, but I have little doubt that had the media spotlight not been there, they would have received exactly the same treatment from the thuggish IDF.

Maybe they'll hold the Olypics in Gaza some time soon.

I'm of Jewish origin myself and I deeply respect this nation for its talent to survive despite all the hardships it undergone during the centuries. But as a state the present Israel has little to do with Jewish nation which is rather peaceful in nature. So I 100% agree with Midas' comment...

Re: Israel facing a new Intifada

You don't seem to recall the Arab legion, armed and led by British Officers, (GLUBB PASHA, a drunken sod) It was expected that the Legion would destroy the fledgeling state of Israel within week, and was, to their shame, financed by French, English and Vatican money. Israel had denied nothing to Arabs until they were attacked in 1948, even then, they accepted arabs living and working in Israel until they were willingly being used by terrorists.
What Israel has had to endure is unbearable and it is as much a remarkable testement to the people as to how well they have borne it, as it is a disgrace to the United Nations for doing nothing to alleviate their plight.

You could say exactly the same thing about the Palestinians who have had to endure decades of maltreatment in their own country by the Israelis, who have been funded to the tune of billions of dollars by the USA; what have the UN done about alleviating their plight? They've not even been granted statehood despite having been living in the region almost continuously for many times longer than the Israelis have.

Re: Israel facing a new Intifada

Unfortunately, there are many assumptions about where the 'Camp' Palestinians originated. What was in the camps were 'the scum of the desert', not my words but Glubb's, recruited to murder and pillage what was believed to be a weak and unarmed newly, UN Legitimised, Israel, and abandoned on the Israeli borders when this failed. No Arab country would take any responsibility for them. Thus, was the myth created, a myth which has become a truism to suit a perverted politique. As the apple never falls too far from the tree, like their fathers and grandfathers, this lazy shiftless camp population now insist they are Palestinians but they have never lived or worked in Palestine. And, a great percentage of the US money you decry, has fed them for 60 years, you will note the lack of gratitude for this over generous welfare by the sheer enthusism they show in murdering young US soldiers.
