Isnt it time we started getting tough with criminals and locking them up for their entire sentences and not letting them out to re offend. This report is a damning indightment of liberal justice.

I know many will disagree, but I'm sure that repeated attempts at socialisation in respect of creating a society of people who expect without having contributed, who then find that life isn't what they expected without hard work, drive and determination on their part, has had a significant impact on crime.

It seems to me that people have little respect for things they haven't earned.
If it doesn't cost you anything you don't value it, look at education, the welfare net, the NHS, public services, having children (!!!!!). To my mind that's the real destruction wrought by the welfare state.

More prisons. Tougher judges. More guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens. Just three things to help get you on your way.

The culture of a something for nothing society took root under the Thatcher administration. Many of the 3m unemployed were encouraged by the Thatcher government to claim sick benefits [which evolved into long term incapacity benefits] in order to hide the true high unemployment figures.

Children saw their parents sitting at home and being given money for nothing so the culture became entrenched among many claimant families who saw this as the norm. Once entrenched this was encouragement to others so inclined to use this method to milk the system.

This culture will prove much harder to end than its introduction. I am not relating this point to today's unemployed, made redundant through the banking crisis, but to the previous period of high employment where the determined hard core of undeserving claimants are unable to be prised away from their fraudulent and indolent life style.
