So, what do you think? Is dylexia real or is a cover made by the Government in response to poor teaching?

Psychology professor Julian Elliott has angered dyslexia organisations by saying dyslexia is an "emotional construct", not a "scientific function", arguing that he would have little confidence in any diagnosis of dyslexia because there is no consensus about how to define it.

    I shouldn't but...

your post uses dylexia rather than dyslexia, unintentionally amusing (yes, I am easily amused). Anyways, whether it is emotional Google Page Ranking scientific, there is certainly something which causes some people to have difficulty reading. From personal experience a nephew of mine suffered greatly with it, but just by using shaded lenses in glasses to read, he copes perfectly well (it's not iq-related either, he's a smart young man).

No one has ever explained to me why certain countries have near 100% literacy rates and why certain countries can get away with labelling a large portion of its illiterate population as dyslexic and get away with it.

I read somewhere about a study where supposed dyslexic sufferers were taught using synthetic phonics in clanarkshire and it had a 100% success rate. My guess is that dyslexia is just another modern day fiction.

Perhaps they don't, perhaps they can't count either!

    Because dyslexics aren't neccessarily illiterate?
So unproductive has conservatism been in producing a general conception of how a social order is maintained that its modern votaries, in trying to construct a theoretical foundation, invariably find themselves appealing almost exclusively to authors who regarded themselves as liberal. - F.A. "Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised 'for the good of its victims' may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us 'for our own good' will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." -- C.S. Lewis
