We hear of the increased billions being poured into the health service, but do we notice the difference in improved services? No we don't. We now have to jam the switchboard at the doctor's surgery in the hope of getting a visit, and still wait ages for non-urgent surgery. I don't blame the nurses, most of whom do a good job, although, to be honest, when I had to spend a short time in hospital recently, there were a few nurses who obviously didn't care much about their patients need for sleep. Maybe the health service needs a bit more firm control. The bigger the organisation, the more discipline is needed. The army has known that for centuries.
