| 82% are convinced public services wont cope with future immigration HALF of Brits believe immigration is GOOD for the country, a Sun survey shows today. Ipsos-MORI interviewed a representative quota sample of 1,013 adults in Great Britain aged 18+. But most say Labour has failed to handle the population explosion effectively. The number in favour of immigration has risen in the last 12 months in a clear sign that the UK is becoming a more tolerant nation. Our poll reveals more than half now reckon foreigners dont work HARDER than British citizens. 30% say immigrants have brought problems or headaches. 80 per cent say they believe the Government has LIED to the nation about the true scale of immigration. Eight out of ten quizzed in our Ipsos-MORI survey say they don’t think the Government has been “open and honest” with them. Overall, seven out of ten believe there are too many immigrants in Britain. More than three out of ten say there has been a difference in crime levels due to immigration – and one quarter is convinced outsiders are to blame for a rise. One third of people ARE frightened to reveal their true thoughts on immigration because of the fear of being branded a racist. Most alarming for Mr Brown is the fact that a huge majority believe the Government is not being straight over immigration. Only 2% believe ANYONE should be able to come and live here. A significant 64 per cent say the laws on immigration should be tougher and almost three out of four say they are unhappy with Labour’s handling of the issue. Official figures show the UK population will explode by 4.4million over the next eight years to a total of 65million. But the Ipsos-MORI poll reveals 80 per cent believe the Government is being dishonest about the true scale. And 82 per cent are convinced our public services won’t be able to cope with the influx. This presents Mr Brown with a major problem as he tries to plan for the future in the face of an economic slump. Government borrowing is rising and tax receipts are slowing as the world deals with a financial crunch. This means the Premier has even less cash to work with than he has in recent years with a smaller population. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article421861.ece |
