    A late introduction

I have been posting here for a couple of weeks or so and just realized that there is an introduction forum.

I live in Florida and a I am a recently early retirement (at age 55) Environmental Engineer. I worked for Lockheed Martin for many years. I am married 37 years to a school teacher who is also a Minister although she doesn't have a congregation and has no plans to do so.

After retiring we traveled around for awhile and did a bunch of fun things. I taught at college for a couple of years and then worked as an Engineering Consultant just to keep a little busy. I have been working on a couple of development projects and helping to permit two new nuclear power plants. I typically work about 12 hours a week and it is mostly from home. I usually have the computer on during most of the day and will visit these discussion forums several times during the day as a little break.

At one time I was an Admin for a Conservative discussion forum.

I am a card carrying gun nut. I am a NRA Certified Firearms Instructor and a Certified Range Officer. I have a good collection of assault weapons and have built several service rifles for the local Sheriff’s department.

I am very conservative but I do not consider myself to be a NeoCon. I would call myself a Paleocon.

A few years ago I would have told you that I was a Republican but the party is too liberal for me nowadays. I voted for Bush twice but he let me down big time by spending more money than he took in, increasing the size of government, not sealing the borders and doing that stupid thing in Iraq when the people that attacked us on 911 were elsewhere.

My younger son is in the Army. He is a Cavalry Scout with the 1st Cav Regiment. He joined in 2007 and his first tour was in Korea. He is now at Ft Bliss Texas assigned to a combat brigade that will be deployed in October. He was recently home on his pre deployment block leave.

    And a belated welcome Flash!
You are most welcome here and as I am sure you have already discovered you will find many here with opposing world views to your own to debate with; after all what a boring world if we all agreed! It would also make for a boring debate forum.
I'm sure you have already aquainted yourself with them, but just in case you can find the rules here. Knowing what’s appropriate and what isn’t can save everybody a whole load of trouble! You might also find the Guide to Good Posting useful. Also please respect other people’s views; though they may not be the same as yours it does not mean they are necessarily wrong, just different.

If you need help with anything at all, feel free to contact me, or one of the other moderators, via a personal message; details can be found here.

    Hi Flash

Your views sound very sensible to me; even if I do not agree with them in some key ways; however you seem like the sort of person I can have a constructive debate with. At least I hope so!

    Best wishes and belated welcome

Even though I did welcome you after you first posted here, it would seem rude not to be included here, so again, welcome to the forum, and a whole-hearted agreement with MN's remarks.
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised 'for the good of its victims' may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us 'for our own good' will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." -- C.S. Lewis
