    The ice breaker

Hi everyone, my names Dom, currently a sixth form student. I'm studying English language, English literature, History and of course Politics. At the moment I'm on school holidays, waiting for my AS level results, so fingers crossed!

I'm really interested in politics, and hate people saying the the 'youth of today don't care about politics' because there's one youth that does!

Hi Dom, and welcome to the Politics Forum!

Before anything else can I make a couple of quick points about posting in the forum. If you haven't read the rules yet, please do; you can find them here. Knowing what’s appropriate and what isn’t can save everyone a great deal of hassle! You might also find the Guide to Good Posting useful. Also please respect other people’s views; they mightn’t be the same as yours but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re wrong, just different.

If you need help with anything at all, feel free to contact me, or one of the other moderators, via a personal message; details can be found here.

Fingers crossed for your exams by the way; you're not the only person here awaiting their results! Perhaps you'd care to tell us a little more about your own political and social views.

    Hello again Dom!
You'll find quite a few of todays politicised youth here to debate with (I'm no longer one myself sad to say), so hopefully you shouldn't encounter too much of that attitude here!
Best thing to do is to jump straight in and post on any topic which interests you.
Look forward to debating with you soon.

    Hello Dom,

I too am a Sixth form College student awaiting their results.
[Out of curiosity, are you in a debating society at college?]

    Hopefully you do well

    Hi Liberal Authoritarian,

Good luck with your results. I was wrong to presume that everyone would be old on this politics site! I am in a debating society, Alsager School, however we sadly never do very well as a school, I blame my team mate who freezes most of the time!

Syphro hi: I wish I'd found a site like this sooner, I imagine it will be great help with homework :P I am no leftie though, everyones right wing today anyway aren't they?!

You'd be surprised, there is a huge amount of lefties on the site (including me several weeks ago)!

Oh not everyone no! You may have to look a little harder but there are some of us die hard lefties around (and I don't mean whimpy liberals I mean die hard "To secure for the workers by hand or by brain the full fruits of their industry and the most equitable distribution thereof that may be possible upon the basis of the common ownership of the means of production" socialists!).

What she actually means Dom, is there are people here who actually believe that government should forcibly take from the most capable and productive in society and distribute it free and unasked to those who are the least capable and productive

No Dom, what she (being the cats mother) means (also being able to talk for herself) is that there are people here who believe that if one is lucky enough to have succeeded in capitalist terms they have a duty to redistribute some of that luck to the less fortunate. What he means however, is that those who have trampled on the poor and less fortunate in order to make their millions should be given free license to do more of! What he also knows is that on a scale of whimpy liberal to full-on Marxist I land nearer to whimpy liberal end; but you will encounter some proper "Lefties" (not a pissed down Americanized version) as well as some proper Right-wingers here!
However this thread is supposed to be about you! Tell us more! If you're feeling adventurous and don't mind divulging some personal information you could post here and there's a rogues gallery here if you're very brave!

Hi Dom! I've just finished my second 6th form year, so I'm awaiting my A2 results for university... In the USA at the moment, so you won't see me around much for a while. But I'll look forward to debating with you in the future! (p.s. I'm a leftie too )
