How heavy is a polar bear?

enough to break the ice! I know, I'm smooth...

    Hello everyone.

My name is Jordan and thought I should introduce myself now. I innitially made the account to read some posts and gain a bit of insight (hence the lazy account name) but I found myself getting stuck in straight away.

I haven't taken any course in politics, nor am I the son of a MP but I do have an interest in the matter and I think thats what counts.

I am very proud to be British and I feel we should be more patriotic like the french and americans. A bit more history and culture should be taught in schools, including our national anthem!

I also feel a bit more power should be given to the monarchs!

Issues that concern me are those in any area of the United Kingdom.

    Nice to meet everyone!

I've just been having a quick look back through the threads where you've posted, and it doesn't look like anyone has officially welcomed you to the forum! If indeed this has been the case, let me correct that oversight, and formally say "Welcome to The Politics Forum" to you. I guess it's a bit late to tell you how we operate and what the rules are! But thanks for the bit of extra information about yourself, it's always interesting to know.

Hey Patriot, I think the reason we don't do patriotism that much over here is the staple beacons of partriotism; the monarchy, our history, the national anthem, don't really speak to the people in the way they should. As a non-religious, anti-imperialism and anti-monarchy sort of person, the words "God save our Queen" don't really inspire the patriotic side of me. But I do agree more pride should be taken in our country, it seems nowadays its only during world sporting events that any national pride is on display.

Oh and welcome to the forum too.

    Most people like the Monarchy

    Welcome to the forum Patriot1...
Though I have spoken to you quite a bit already :P

I love patriotism, however, I don't want us to follow the example of the American's or French to be honest. American's seem to have this fake patriotism which they have to clarify in law -_-

Whilst the French... well if you have seen my blog you will know

They should do, the bring lots of money into the economy through tourism

Yes I have done aha, bit of a late intro but better now than never.

I know where your're coming from. I think the majority of American's have a sensible amount of patriotism but , as the American thing to do with everything is go over the top, when there are attacks on America etc their patriotism is exaggerated.

But we're not even halfway to the same point as America is so there is still room for improvements with Britain's patriotism (or lack there of)

I mean, up untill Gordon Brown came into power there were actual laws in place restricting the days when you can fly a Union Jack.

Abolishing those laws is the only thing I've agreed with him on!

I think one huge problem is that there are British people who wish to celebrate Britain and it's glorious history. However, the politicians do not.

    That causes issues.

Mr Brown also votes against a lot of homosexual rights legislation.
Something I only found out recently...

Indeed. We all know, in this multi-cultural society, the only culture that can't be celebrated is our own. I'll save it for a thread though.

I never knew that either. But it depends what you mean by "rights", because homosexuality is still quite a big issue even in these times.
Human rights is one thing but marriage is another. I've yet to make up my mind. That could be an interesting thread.

I just think dear old queeny should get involved a bit more in politics.

We know that technically she does, but she can't actually voice her opinion as she has to do what the PM wants, as he represents the majority. I feel she atleast have discussions and debates with the PM and maybe even deny a few things or suggest a few ideas!
