Hello i'm new to politics and this forum. With all the recent activity in the middle east I realized i know nothing about the world around me so i thought it high time i start learning. I lived in canada for most of my life and am back in the UK my birth place and for the first time i can vote and be a real citizen. So much is changing in the world and being in the UK i feel that much closer to where so much trouble seems to arise. I hope i can make sense out of it all. Where is the best place to get an objective view of the middle east and it's relationships to each other and the world around it? Thanks
Hi crazylilting, and welcome to the Politics Forum!
To start with you might like to read the extended "Welcome" message in the Rules and Guidelines section of the forum, which also includes a full version of the Forum Rules.
Knowing what’s appropriate to say and post and what isn’t can save everyone a great deal of hassle, and as such you might also find the Guide to Good Posting useful. If you’re unfamiliar with the type of forum software we use here, a brief guide to using it can be found here. Please respect other people’s views here; they mightn’t be the same as yours, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re wrong, just that they're different.
If you need help with anything at all to do with the forum, feel free to contact me, or one of the other moderators, via a personal message; our details can be found here, listed as "Minister" and “Junior Minister”.
Perhaps you’d care to tell us a little bit more about yourself here?
Enjoy the debates, but as for finding objectivity regards the Middle East, as Streetwalker has said, if you do find it, let everyone know![]()

Thanks for the welcome. Yes it is very difficult to get a full understanding of the middle east and the many issues that revolve around land and religion in the region. From the reading i've been doing I've got a good grasp on the issue of Gaza and Israel but i think it is only part of the story. I think in 70 AD the roman empire named what is Israel and Jordan now Palestine in an effort to slag the Jewish people off historically wipe the Israelite's out of the history books as it were. So from then on the Jewish were considered Palestinians as well as the Arabs that lived in the area. Then there was the Zionists who wanted a home land and got it through Britain in the early 1900's but the land was to be shared with the Arab Palestinians as well. The west bank and Gaza. Then there were a bunch of wars in which the Arabs lost to Israel. At that time there was a mass exodus but the Israeli's said they could stay on the land. Usually spoils of war mean that they would of been deported to other Arab nations but this didn't happen. So the Arab's in Gaza are decedents of the Arabs who fought and lost to the Israeli's. I don't know why they are called Palestinian's as the Jews were also called Palestinians as well it only refereed that they lived in the region and not that they were a nation. Israel would of been rid of the problem if they would of just deported them after the war, but i think they may of had more problems with the Arab's if they did it so damned if they do and damned if they don't. The Newest issues of course are because of Humas and him being a terrorist so they want to basically starve the people in Gaza in a hope they oust the party and then will deal with a more reasonable government. Any how that's what i understand so far but i could be wrong. If there is more to it i'd love to know. especially how the Palestinian's are considered a nation and not just a state within Israel.
I wonder why the things that should be so simple, so natural... like loving someone and letting them see into your heart... should require so much courage?
Starve wasn't the right word. It was just a general word as there is more then one way to starve a person. And from the figures given by aid organizations involved only a 1/4 of what is needed is actually getting through. oh and if someone could tell me how to make paragraphs it would be helpful so things don't show up as a wall of text thanks
Hi and welcome crazylilting.
It's great your interested on learning more of the current world
around you. Well people in a way should be aware of their surroundings
for preparation in time if anything to be expected. I'm guessing most
likely you are either Democrat or Libetarian? I might be wrong, but
I wouldn't know either way. I'm not even sure if you have a political
stance but then again thats none of my business.
Hope you have a good time around the forum. I'm sure you'll
learn alot here because I see quite alot of those who
seem to more than I will ever know. History is the better of
my sunjects.
Also a bit of refreshing of History may help to...
History is our greatest gift that must be taken into consideration.
Without it we have no human instinct and neither strong convictions.
We exist to this day to fullfill this duty of Honor that we do NOT
forget it and that We preserve it's memory. It is our Key to this Future.
Not the thread for this I know - I'm telling myself it'sand I'm not going to say another word on the subject, here at least - but that's not entirely true Don, certainly as far as Israel is concerned. To quote Dov Wiesglass, aid to Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, the intention of the blockade is "to put the Palestinians on a diet, but not to make them die of hunger."

Gaza is the jews repeating the warsaw ghetto. think thats an extreme thing to say? How many palestinians have died ? A lot ? uhuh , how many isrealis? not very many not very many at all old son. Are they using phospherous? yes and not the kind in your multivitimins either old lad.
[E] This was my understanding as well. I also heard that they wanted to make the Gaza like a window shop creating the haves and have nots in a hope that they would oust Humas. [E] Recently in the news Ireland mentioned deporting a Israeli diplomat that was involved in forging UK passports that were used by assassins in Dubai to murder the head of Humas. I find it quite shocking if it is true that Israel would be involved in such activities, and that the world would allow something of this nature to go without being condemned and investigated to it's end and punish all involved even if that means the government. [E] Also i have tried using the enter key to make paragraphs but it doesn't seem to work. I have entered [E] where i have used the enter key in hopes that you can see that it doesn't work.Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, the intention of the blockade is "to put the Palestinians on a diet, but not to make them die of hunger."
Thanks for the welcome silver eagleAs i've only gotten interested in Politics since moving back to the uk after a long time away i can't profess to be anything. I don't know what a democrat or a libetarian are. When i voted, which was the first time i've ever voted in my 43 years on earth, i voted on the premise of who i thought would be mildly competent at the job as non of the parties platforms are palatable. I find political parties tend to target groups of people instead of looking at the issues that face our country and presenting a clear plan as to how they would handle it. The coalition is the first step away from this paradigm in my opinion which will be good.I'm guessing most likely you are either Democrat or Libetarian? I might be wrong, but I wouldn't know either way. I'm not even sure if you have a political stance but then again thats none of my business
