Lets all remember that Israel are not to blame here. If left alone the Israelis would not have been forced to retaliate. A bunch of Muslim terrorists start a war and all of a sudden the worlds PC brigade get on their backs. In my book they have got what they deserve. The same people that have derided Israel would have derided the British for bombing Germany in the 2nd world war.
Of course it is sad that so many people have suffered as a result of this conflict, however have a look at who is really to blame.
History doesn't bear you out on that; right from the time of the Balfour Declaration, and in particular following the formal establishment of the State of Israel, they've been shown to be quite capable of their own terrorist activities and warmongering and have had designs on expanding their country to include the whole of the West Bank and Gaza from day one.
I'd suggest you read through Trouble43's many posts on the subject in other Middle East threads which detail many of Israel's illegal activities against their neighbouring Arab countries. Quite frankly I can't be bothered to repeat them all yet again, but sadly it seems that no matter how much you point out the truth to Danielle, she doesn't want to know it and would rather just keep on believing the Israeli propaganda machine's version of events.
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised 'for the good of its victims' may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us 'for our own good' will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." -- C.S. Lewis
The point is that Israel is a Western democracy and has been what it is for a long long time. The Islamic countries don't like the idea of a Jewish settlement being stuck in the middle east and at any given opportunity they will have a go. Thank heaven the Israelis have proper developed brains and the ability to nuke any of it's neighbours if they have to. One day the East will rise and no doubt attack the west in the name of Allah. It's then when we will need Israel on our side especially due to their geographical positioning. I suggest we back them all the way and give them any help they need.
Cagan, as with all things in the Middle East they are never black and white and who started the Israel/Palestine conflict is no exception. Really the Palestinian people got caught in the middle of aggression between Israel and her Arabic neighbours, which eventually resulted in the six day war of 1967. Subsequently Israel chose to ignore the UN resolution which brokered peace (resolution 242) a habit she continues to this day, so far
Israel has ignored UN resolutions 242, 252, 262, 267, 271, 298, 446, 452, 465, 471, 484, 487, 497, 573, 592, 605, 607, 608, 636, 641, 672, 673, 681, 694, 726, 799, UNGA res 48/71, UNGA res 50/21, 904, 1073, 1322, 1402, 1403, 1405 and 1435,thirty five in all count em! We can argue that Israel has the right to ignore the UN if she so choses with a mandate from the people, however just remind me what happened when Iraq did not comply with just ONE resolution?
Your example of 1939 Germany bears no correlation because the third Reich was the equivalent of Israel in that Germany held all the power and weapons and ignored the warnings and treaties of the rest of the world.
"The object of universities is not to make skilful lawyers, physicians or engineers. It is to make capable and cultivated human beings." John Stewart Mill
Aaah I see, not so much pro-Israel as anti-Arabic, yes that's logical (not)!
Trying to be totally fair to Danielle, none of us actually lives in the area or in fear of our lives and as such I think it is perfectly reasonable to be unable to see your "enemies" point of view. After all virtually no-one (not even on the left) saw the IRA as freedom fighters during the height of the troubles did they?
The truly sad thing is that peace will never come until each side is prepared to at least consider the other sides point of view.

"Modern capitalism, organising the reduction of all social life to a spectacle, cannot offer any other spectacle than that of our own alienation."

I am sorry to see AIPAC getting to work here. The zionist colony in Palestine exists mainly by terror and by American subsidy, especially by murdering children (over 1400 in less than nine years). I do not think it is worth spending time talking to murderers and their supporters. It is a total waste of effort, because they are interested ONLY in expressing hatred against the wicked 'them' who object to being robbed, displaced, slandered and tortured, the 'them' who, like the fighters in the Warsaw Ghetto, dare to fight back against the Master Race. In wanting to suppress free expression - something they inevitably end up trying to do - they resemble racist colonists everywhere.
